DosDude Catalina Patcher is a third-party tool, meaning Apple does not develop the tool. It’s made by an individual developer instead. Keep in mind that just because you can make your old Mac run Catalina, it doesn’t necessarily mean it will always be a good thing to do. I have a 2008 Mac Pro (3,1). Dual 2.8Ghz quadcores, 64GB RAM, and a 2 TB internal SSD. I was running El Capitan and opted to put in @dosdude1 's High Sierra patch in order to be able to run some newer software I couldn’t run on El Capitan. Following his website's instructions, I ended up installing from a 32GB USB thumb drive.

I read somewhere that it is possible to install the latest version of OSX 10.10 Yosemite on my Mac, even though the official installer refuses to install.

Installing newer versions of OSX on slightly older Macs that do not meet the official system requirements can be done using MacPostFactor (MCPF).
MacPostFactor also supports installing OSX versions up to OSX 10.10 Yosemite on older Macs. And a new version that supports installing OSX 10.11 El_Capitan is in the works.
